Tanumshede to Alta 2014

This body of work is a response to the ancient rock markings of Tanumshede in Sweden and Alta in Norway.

I have a long held fascination in how we mark and shape the places we inhabit and how these acts of marking join us over vast divides of time, space and culture. This combines with recognition of the journey as a search for historical trace and a discovery of contemporary marking that fuses the relationship between lasting and temporary intervention.

This work was produced as an engagement with the resonance of place and a desire to combine elements of the potency of antiquity with the banality of the everyday.
